In Serbia...

First of all, Republic of Serbia is a small country (if you heard about Kosovo problem, then you have heard about Serbia, too) somewhere in Europe. Ok - we are not EU member, but we are in Europe. Hard to understand? Belive me, it's much more harder to live here than understand our position on the world map. Anyway, I want to tell you something about irritating stuff here...

Three months ago we have decided to renovate our apartment. So, we found a man who said that he would do electric very fast. Yes, we had some problem with electrical installation and we had to change all of it... After few days he said that he could paint our apartment too, do some carpenter's work and much more.

- Hey, this guy is extraordinary! - we thought. But, soon enough we discovered very very very sad true - this guy is everything, but handyman. Yup - bummer!

After three months our apartment still is not finished. But, I have just decided that we will move in it tomoorow. Yup - tomorrow night. Before an hour ago I called our handyman and told him
that. He wasn't happy. To be more precisely, he was very angry:

- You are crazy woman - he said. - You cannot move to your apartment until middle of the next week.

- Oh, really? Why? Tell me why! - I yelled. - What are you doing in our apartment for the last three months? What work you still have to do? Are you insane? I have baby twins and I want back to my home with them! D O    Y O U   U N D E R S T A N D    ME? read my lips: I WANT BACK TO MY HOME! I DON'T WANT TO SEE YOU THERE! CAN YOU UNDERSTAND THAT?

- Oh, that's not a problem. I wont be there. But, you have to pay me full price for my work there.
- Oh, God! What work? What full price? Fellow, you are really insane!

- I thought we are friends. - he said and I was really surprised.

I mean, we are friends? Oh, boy! If I am polite to someone, that means I'm good person - not somebodies friend. What is terribly wrong with people in Serbia?

Anyway, my twins, husband and I will move tomorrow to our apartment. Full stop. There is still some small work to be done, but that's not problem. I will personally put parts for curtains on the wall and some shelf. YES, I CAN!

I face similar situation (just to explain "similar situation" - more then friendly communication between myself and some strangers, caused on their behalf) almost every day. For example, when I go to grocery store a saleswoman ask me what would I make for lunch/dinner or when she would see my children or she comments my love for my husband... Sick, isn't it?

A plumber told me higher price for some work he should do, because he saw expensive ceramics in my bathroom. Insane, isn't it?

A hair-cuter colored my hair in some insane color which I do not like, because she thought that color would suit to me better than red. She colored my hair again in red, of course - but I couldn't believe that she colored me in some pink color!

Our government is terrible one. But, people are afraid to tell that loud and clear. It is very rare to hear on the street or read some critics about Serbian government in a blog or newspapers (sad, but true - almost all of media here are bootlickers). I think that journalist wont write critics about government, because they are pussies. Yes, pussies! If we are afraid to tell loud and clear what we have on our mind; if we are too afraid to tell our government "guys, it's not ok - you are just bunch of incompetent people on high positions and we are sick of you", then we will never have better government. Am I right?

if you haven't noticed, I just burned out. :) There are some good things in Serbia, but I'm focused on opposite things right now because I'm surrounded with them. I really want to change something to better, but, also, I know that I cannot do much if I'm alone. I hope that very soon in the future I would be in better mood and I would write about nice things here (so, maybe you decide to visit us), but not right now.

I want to know does this happens in your country, too or Serbia is wild wild West with insane people and situation they cause...

  1. Hello friend,
Thank you very much for following my blog on Google Friend Connect.
In the '70, I have visited Belgrade twice, at that time capital city of Yugoslavia. I love traveling by train (Eurail pass at that time).
I am a fan of Tito and his courage to be independent from the Soviet Union or USA at that time. Let's keep in touch.
